Eastern Bird Banding Association

What is EBBA?

The Eastern Bird Banding Association is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization covering 17 eastern United States and 6 Canadian provinces. We join together all those in the region who share a passion for birds, and are interested in researching and studying their populations through the practice of banding.

Mission

The Eastern Bird Banding Association is a 501(c)3 non-profit established in 1923, whose mission is:

To promote and encourage sound ethical bird banding practices, techniques and investigations into the biology, behavior and ecology of birds by the banding, marking, tagging or other means of tracking;

To actively encourage the sharing of such investigations by publishing in the North American Bird Bander (NABB - the Journal of the Association), presenting results at the annual meeting of EBBA, or by other means such as virtual presentations;

To actively encourage the cooperation of its members by providing opportunities to network at the annual meetings, sharing findings, and sharing expertise and knowledge through community outreach and mentoring.

Values

We welcome all those interested in and passionate about the banding of birds for scientific and research purposes.

We believe in the sharing of resources and knowledge.

We value all perspectives - both of those new to banding and of seasoned experts.

We emphasize training of all banders, and subscribe to the principles of the North American Banding Council (NABC). EBBA sponsors certification sessions and encourages banders to participate.
